Today is a very special day and you didn’t even know it. That’s great, because that’s why I’m here. I’m the guy behind the guy who gets all of the information ready just in time for when the moment arises and things start getting real. That’s just what I do.

We all know that this Saturday, the 18th of October is our Octobeerfest from 2-8 in the back parking lot of the Taproom where we’ll be pouring German beers and styles and we even have an Umpah Band coming. All of that’s great and I haven’t even mentioned that we’re serving our famous sausage sandwiches yet. But what are you going to do to get ready?

You’re going to get some history dropped on you; that’s what.

So, today is the 15th of October in the year Two Thousand Fourteen. But, you already knew that.

What you might not have known is that it was on this day (THIS DAY) in the year 1520 that King Henry VIII ordered bowling lanes to be put in Whitehall. That was a long time ago and now you know that bowling is actually older than you thought which is probably older than electricity but I haven’t yet arrived in that part of the research.

Also this is the day that Napoleon began his exile in St. Helena in 1815 and, in a very fitting piece of collective irony (is it irony?), this is also the day one hundred and twenty five years later that Charlie Chaplin released “The Great Dictator.” And if you know anything about me it’s that I’m in constant training for the right to claim Mr. Chaplin’s mansion, which is just sitting there waiting for me on the other side of this amazing nation.

It should also be noted that somewhere in there (the middle of those two events), it was on this day (THIS DAY) that eleven-year-old Grace Bedell wrote a man by the name of Abraham Lincoln asking him to start growing a beard. We (I, really) thought that was a good enough reason to grow a beard. But, when I can grow a beard for an even better cause, I click on the link every time I write the word, “beard.”

With all of that history now bestowed upon you, it’s probably a really good time to talk about this day: meaning, today. Well, today you’ll have the lucky opportunity to wade in the glory that is the Double IPA. Even I thought that was a random transition.

But since we’re here (the present), if you’re a fan of the style of Double IPAs (and you probably are since our great Republic produces the greatest representations of the style that the world has ever seen) then the present is a great place for you to be right now. All I really need to discuss about beer this week (minus the aforementioned treats we will have this Saturday (the German ones)) is to simply list off the Double IPAs that we have available for you right now and then sit back and let it soak in for you. Ready? All right, I’m just going to throw these out there:

  • Hill Farmstead Abner
  • Fiddlehead Mastermind
  • Lawson’s Finest Sip of Sunshine
  • Lawson’s Finest / Otter Creek Double Dose
  • The Alchemist’s Heady Topper

You see what I mean?

That’s all I really need to say.

Well, that and we’ll see you Saturday from 2-8 while we’re pouring German beers and styles and feeding you sausage sandwiches.

And with that I give you,
